Present Responsibilities

Working with Arthur Freedman Associates, Inc., Mr. Johnson provides professional services for trouble shooting cooling and boiler water applications and treatment problems, process waters, cooling and heating systems, steam generation, wastewater treatment and reuse, and wastewater discharge.

He has over 33 years experience in the water treatment and environmental engineering fields, providing the background needed to conduct a wide range of problem solving, economic analysis, treatment program monitoring and supervision, conceptual design and regulatory compliance services for commercial, industrial and engineering clients.

 

Pertinent Experience

Mr. Johnson's diversified experience with water treatment processes and application of specialty chemicals for effective operation of utility systems in commercial, industrial and municipal facilities includes:

  • Field application work with specialty chemicals for operation of process water supplies, cooling systems, steam generation systems, wastewater and oil recovery systems in commercial and industrial facilities. Activities included monitoring of customers' systems, operator training, problem identification, and problem solving.
  • In-depth facility surveys of industrial water handling systems from inlet to outlet, creating economic assessments of treatment alternatives, and development of water management plans to maintain cost effective operations while maintaining environmental regulatory compliance. These plans and product development activities encompassed a wide variety of industries, including chemical, refining, steel, utility, mining, textile, food processing, metal finishing, automotive (both assembly and drive train facilities), general manufacturing plants of almost all types and commercial HVAC systems.
  • Created and presented a variety of training programs for employees and clients on topics including wastewater treatment, foam control, boiler and cooling tower treatment, microbiocide uses and applications, and related topics.
  • Developed specialty water treatment chemical formulations to replace chromate-based corrosion inhibitors in aggressive waters, for control of white rust corrosion in galvanized cooling towers, and an extensive line of coagulation and flocculation polymers for waste treatment and oil recovery/dewatering.

Previous Positions

  • From 1999 to 2011, Mr. Johnson  worked for Mitco, Inc., a manufacturer of specialty chemical formulations for a wide range of  industrial water and wastewater treatment applications.  Mr. Johnson held increasingly responsible positions, ultimately becoming Vice President of Product Technology for Mitco. His responsibilities and duties included:
    • Management of all water treatment chemical product lines, evaluation of product performance, and preparation of product literature, product technical application documents, and ISO 9001 and 14001 processes and documents.
    • Supervision of compliance with applicable regulatory agency requirements including OSHA, EPA, ANSI/NSF, FDA, USDA, and State pesticide laws.
    • Technical assistance to clients, to optimize water supply, potable water, commercial/industrial water treatment and waste treatment programs.
    • Development and implementation of specialized training programs for Mitco and clients.
    • Identification and integration of related product technology to broaden the product offering of Mitco, Inc. Examples include solid feed product offerings, odor control technology, dust suppression products, new biocide actives, etc. 
  • From 1988 through 1999 Mr. Johnson held a variety of positions with Ashland Chemical's Drew Industrial Division.  His responsibilities included Marketing Manager, Water Treatment; Boiler Water Product Manager, Wastewater Polymer Product Manager and Cooling Water Product Specialist.  In 1988 and 1989, Mr. Johnson was the Cooling Water Product Manager for Olin Water Services in Overland Park, Kansas. Ashland acquired Olin Water Services in 1989. Mr. Johnson was responsible for new product development, technical training and support, technical and product assistance to international distribution partners, and general business management of the water treatment division.
  • From 1985 to 1988, Mr. Johnson worked at Wright Chemical Corporation, where he was responsible for general water treatment product management and technical support activities. His activities included application support in the brewing industry as well as the Chemical Process Industry.  
  • From 1978 to 1982, Mr. Johnson was with Betz Laboratories, initially providing technical support for cooling and waste water treatment programs in the primary metals industry in the Midwest, and then as Sales Engineer in heavy industry along the Ohio River.
